There are thousands of web sites dedicated to real estate. We have links to the sites we feel offer the most reliable, up to date information, and will best aid you in your home search. The acronym MLS stands for "multiple listing system" which is the database of homes for sale your local area Realtors operate. This database is shared with all of the web sites listed below.
Here are each of the search links from the home page with a description and suggested uses for each:
Realtor.com - The single largest database of homes for sale and information about Realtors and real estate. This site also offers a very nice iOS/Andriod app.
Pros: you can set up an account and save searches & properties, updated very frequently
Cons: lots of advertising, and searches always present homes with paid placement before the actual search results. This can be a little confusing and annoying
Metro Denver Search (REcolorado.com) - In our opinion, the best tool to search for homes in the greater Denver metro area. REcolorado.com is directly linked to the Metrolist (Denver MLS) database and is updated very quickly. The search results are sorted strictly by the criteria (no paid placement). The iOS app is pretty "vanilla", but does a good job of helping you look up houses quickly.
Pros: you can set up an account and save searches/properties, updated very frequently
Cons: not many. there isn't much content outside of the home search, but what it does, it does well
Northern CO Search (coloproperty.com) - This site should be used if you will be looking for your new home in Boulder, Larimer, or Weld county. It is similiar to the Metro Denver Search in that it is linked directly to the IRES (northern CO MLS) database and is updated very quickly. Also like REcolorado.com the site has almost no advertising.
Pros: you can set up an account and save searches/properties, updated very frequently
Cons: limited additional content beyond home search
New Home Search - If you want to look for brand new homes this is where you want to look. This is the most complete builder / new home subdivision site we are aware of.
Pros: one of the only, and definitely the largest site dedicated exclusively to new homes. part of Move.com
Cons: a lot of advertising, and a very "busy" layout. The site relies on builders to provide the information and keep it updated, so oftentimes the information is out of date or incomplete
Zillow.com - Although the web site and iOS / Android app have the ability to search homes for sale, the real strength of Zillow is as a research tool. For that reason I have it listed under buyer/seller information, and would suggest the use of one of the other sites and apps listed above
You won't go wrong using any of the sites or apps I have listed here. I would encourage you to try them all and see which ones work best for you. You might even find that some are even better situationally. For example, if I want to take a quick look at the homes for sale within a given area, the REcolorado.com app is hard to beat.
